It is a serious wine with great aging potential, but it also drinks well now with some air. Cool climate characteristics dominate, with tart red and black fruit spiked with pepper and olive, complemented by youthful structure and a meaty, dusty mineral finish that lingers on the palate. We use the same old-world style of winemaking for the Halcon that we use on our estate Syrah, eschewing the use of new oak to allow the site’s character to take center stage. We think this is a terrific value in top-flight Syrah.
